So, you’re wondering if you might be pregnant, but don’t know the very early signs of pregnancy? While pregnancy symptoms will often vary between women and even between pregnancies, there are some common symptoms to give you some help.
Missed Period
This is one of the early signs and what typically will lead to a pregnancy test. While this is a good indication of being pregnant, it’s not foolproof the first month. Some women may still have light bleeding during their first month.
By the time a woman has noticed a missed period due to a pregnancy, at least 5 other symptoms may have made themselves known, possibly weeks before the scheduled period.
Here are five very early signs of pregnancy that can be noticed by a sensitive mother-to-be. And, all five can happen long before a period has been missed.
Elevated Basal Body Temperature
The body’s basal temperature (the lowest body temperature that happens during rest) begins to elevate after ovulation, and stays elevated beyond your next expected period. Ovulation is when a mature egg is released from the ovary and pushed down the fallopian tube and is ready to be fertilized by a sperm. The implantation of a fertilized egg normally takes place 6 to 12 days after ovulation – that’s about two to three weeks before the next period is missed.
One of the other big signs of an early pregnancy is you will urinate more than usual. A lot of woman will see an increase in urination even before they miss there period. the change in hormone levels will cause you to urinate more and one to weeks when the temperature rises in ovulation.
Drowsiness: Some pregnant women experience fainting spells earlier in pregnancy. The uterus puts an increased pressure on the system which leads to compression in leg arteries. This causes a steep fall in blood pressure which results in fainting or dizziness.
Spotting or powdering. There are times when spotting is of great concern and usually this is later on in the pregnancy but a light spotting early on can also indicate pregnancy. Usually the color of the blood will be brown or pink and very light.
Morning Sickness: Contrary to popular belief, morning sickness can occur all through the day, not just in the morning! This is a symptom that is instantly recognizable and can occur between 2 and 8 weeks after conception. It is a symptom that is not common to all women, some women are lucky enough not feel any nausea. As the symptom of morning sickness is nausea, you can imagine how many illnesses can cause this. 24hr bugs, flu, upset stomach, food poisoning etc can all mirror morning sickness symptoms.
