Nausea and vomiting are the very first signs of pregnancy. These symptoms, collectively termed as ‘morning sickness’, appear within the first few days of pregnancy. Of course, these could also be some normal symptoms of some nasty indigestion. But if these continue, you should know to suspect pregnancy.
Other signs that are common in some women, but not in others, may include elevated temperature, constipation, dizziness, backaches, headaches, excessive salivation, heartburn, lower abdominal cramps and the well-known cravings for strange food. Food cravings can happen at any time of the day or night, whether or not you have that particular food in the house.
For example, when a pregnancy is taking place, there is no period. That “thing” that comes every month did not come as expected. This is good enough reason to raise some eyebrows. But sometimes, periods may come a few days late, and this could lead to a false alarm. And for something as serious as a pregnancy, no one wants to be responsible for raising any false hopes. So what are some other signs to look out for?
The breasts are beginning to grow in size to accommodate milk production and nursing. Usually within a week of conception, the areolas will darken and striations may begin to show on the breasts. Occasionally breast tenderness will continue after the stage of early pregnancy, but in most cases is it only one of the many signs and symptoms of early pregnancy.
